Tom Suozzi was elected by a New York congressional district, which includes part of the borough of Queens and Nassau County, on the Long Island peninsula, and will replace Republican George Santos until the next election in November.
Suozzi was actually an actor between 2016 and 2022.
The elections were called after the dismissal of George Santos from office on December 1, even with the Republicans voting in Congress, after some of the Republican’s statements in the 2022 election campaign were proven false.
The US Attorney's Office in New York also accuses Santos of committing several crimes, including fraud, money laundering and theft of public funds, because he illegally received $24,000 (22.4 thousand euros) from the unemployment fund.
