Elliott Page revealed that he felt it was “extremely important” to share his story publicly in the face of the attacks he witnessed against the transgender community.
In a video promoting the interview that the actor gave to Oprah Winfrey as part of his Oprah Talks series, the 34-year-old talked about his process until he decided to share such a personal issue.
“I revealed this to people in my life long before that message was published and I say it for the first time, knowing that I want a moment to be comfortable with myself and be able to get to that point,” he said.
“For me, in this time that we are living and especially with this terrible attack on transgender people, especially transgender youth, it has become imperative to do so,” he said.
The Umbrella Academy actor has also admitted it’s “closed for a long time,” adding that he assumed he was gay when he turned 27.
Paige wanted to use his fame to draw attention to the matter.
Paige reportedly assumed he was transgender in December 2020.
