Dengue transmission is increasing and there are 17 high-risk cities in the southwest region

According to the latest survey conducted by a company Diving (Directorate of Epidemiological Surveillance) From Santa Catarina, 17 cities are at high risk of transmitting dengue fever, Zika and Chikungunya.

In total, 105 of the state’s 295 municipalities are infected with mosquitoes Aedes aegypti. Although the number represents less than half of the state’s cities, there is an increase compared to the 97 municipalities that were affected in 2020.

The analysis performed is called LIRAa (Aedes aegypti Quick Index Survey), It refers to 58 municipalities Medium risk and 30 low risk.

According to Dive, with the increase in the number of municipalities classified as medium-risk, there is a greater possibility of outbreaks or epidemics of diseases transmitted through Aedes aegypti.

The survey is conducted annually for about 20 years, and specifies that affected municipalities should undertake activity in March and November. In 2021, as a result of Covid-19, the period of activity has been extended until April.

The LIRAa activity provides information on the quantity and type of water containers that can serve as breeding grounds Aedes aegypti.

At the LIRAa held in March 2020, 63,620 deposits were examined. In the activity carried out in 2021, 90,788 deposits were checked, an increase of 42.7%.

The main types of containers examined in the activity were: small mobile containers, such as trays and buckets of plants (35.9%), litter and scrap (27.7%) and stationary containers such as gutters and swimming pools (15.9%).
