It's been a few weeks since Xiaomi started testing HyperOS on several devices, bringing with it many new features for the system and users. However, there is also bad news for those who like to customize their devices further.
One advantage of Xiaomi devices is that they are highly customizable, and the company has no problems allowing third-party ROMs to be used with its devices. But the task will now become much more difficult for users who upgrade to HyperOS.
This is because with this system, Xiaomi is also making the task of unlocking the bootloader of devices more complex, a process that is necessary to be able to use custom ROMs on devices.
For those who only use the Xiaomi platform, this will not be an issue. However, it will make the task more complicated for those who want to customize their devices and get the best out of the devices.
As of now, users can use the unlock tool created by Xiaomi to unlock their devices. This process was completely free and easy to implement, so any user with a little knowledge could do it.
However, with HyperOS, new requirements have now emerged to be able to unlock the bootloader. First, users will need to explain the reasons for needing to unlock their devices in the Xiaomi Community – Xiaomi's official forum, and they should wait until the company provides the necessary means to do so.
Meanwhile, users still need to have 90 activity points in the community to be able to request this unlock – which won't be available to everyone.
The new procedures may prevent some users from performing this process as simply and quickly as possible until now. In addition, the company now has direct control over which devices can or cannot be unlocked.
