A local Ukrainian politician detonated several hand grenades during a town council meeting in a village in the country’s western Carpathian region, wounding at least 26 people, Ukrainian police said on Friday.
At least six people are in serious condition following the explosions, which occurred around 11am on Friday (local time), while at least a dozen people were meeting to discuss the proposed budget for the border city of Kiritsky. With Hungary for 2024.
One Video posted by police It shows a man entering the room where the meeting was being held and leaning against the door. Moments later, he interrupted the meeting and began taking grenades out of his pockets and throwing them on the ground.
Write the Kyiv Post Ukrainian politician Oleksiy Honcharenko identified the perpetrator of the attack as Serhiy Patryn, a municipal deputy from the Servant of the People party, a movement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to a local police statement reported by Reuters, Patrin was also injured, but emergency teams were eventually able to revive him. The motives for this attack are not yet known.
