oh The services sector, considered the country’s economic lungs, contracted 0.2% in October after growing 0.2% in September, the source said.
Industrials fell 0.8% in October, unchanged from the previous month, while construction fell 0.5%, following a 0.4% gain in September.
As for the revised GDP data for the third quarter of the year (July to September), the GDP did not register growth of two-tenths of a percentage point over the previous quarter.
“In October, there were contractions in three main sectors of the economy. Services were the main driver of the decline, with declines in the IT sector, firms in the legal sector and film production, which eased after two strong months,” said Darren Morgan, director of economic statistics at the ONS.
Next week, the ONS will publish annual inflation in the United Kingdom for November, which fell to 4.6% in October from 6.7% in September.
