In a new Apple promotional video titled “Album Cover,” Apple explains how these features work.
A member of a musical trio uses her iPhone to turn a photo of the three into an image for the cover of their next album. When you press the Portrait button, you stay in focus while the other two members of the group are blurred in the background. She showed the photo to one of her bandmates and asked him what he thought of the cover art for the group's next album.
Even though he says he likes it, he wants to make a small change, and when the cell phone is returned to its owner, we see that the guitarist has refocused and pushed his two bandmates out of focus. The woman says to the guitarist, “Well, I feel like I see you more when I see you less.”
The two walk back and forth, quickly changing the focus of the photo between them. The woman feels like she should be the focus because the album is about her recent breakup. “With me,” says the guitarist. To break the tie, they decided to ask Brian, the third member of the band, to decide which version of the photo was the best. But Brian chooses one photo that is in focus and the other two are out of focus. “It looks iconic,” he says.
Well, the idea is good, but it mainly showcases the new features in an easy-to-understand way. Simple and with very interesting results.
