The WhatsApp application has received a new beta update in the Android version available in the Google Play Beta program with build 2.23.25.19.
Among some news, digging into the new beta code revealed that WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow you to find people by their username, without needing their cell phone number.
In the WhatsApp beta update 2.23.11.15 for Android, WABetaInfo revealed that the app has developed a feature that allows users to choose a username. With this, it will be possible to interact with other people using a unique address.
The feature is still under development, and in the latest update, the code revealed that WhatsApp will allow you to find other people by entering their username into the search engine.
As seen in the image below, users can search for other people by entering their username in the search bar, which improves privacy and security by eliminating the need to provide their cell phone number to establish contact with others.
In addition to greater security, creating new contacts will also be more practical, as you won’t need to add the person’s cell phone number to your address book, just use the username directly.
There are no expectations that the function will reach the Android beta version. When it is released, it will go through the testing phase and after a few weeks, it should be gradually made available in the stable version for all users.
This week, WhatsApp got a new privacy feature that allows you to block conversations with a password and fingerprint, providing greater security for the user.
