We know very little about The Witcher 4, but recent interviews reveal more about the production process and the direction CD Projekt is taking. It seems that the studio is preparing something big, which is taking the RPG genre to the extreme.
During Milan Games Week 2023, Italian website Lega Nerd had the opportunity to speak with Sebastian Kalimba, Head of Animation at CD Projekt. Kalimba worked on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, and serves as director on Project Polaris.
This is what he said:
“Our priority is to always try to do something that pushes the boundaries, and we want to go further. We want to try to do something new in relation to what we already see in RPGs, because we specialize in this genre and our target audience is its fans.”
“I can’t say much, as you can imagine, but the idea is to build something that goes beyond the previous The Witcher game and manages to tell something more powerful, with more intense gameplay.”
Furthermore, Kalimba states that the studio is trying to create an adventure that will appeal to longtime fans but will also serve as a gateway for new players:
“The next chapter will arrive in just a few years and after many years since The Witcher was last released, so we can’t hope to reach the audience that already loved the saga. We also need to create a new community, and I believe I can do that. I say it will be an excellent gateway to many “Players.”
