Benfica welcomes and defeats Sweden’s Rosengard, By 1-0this Wednesday, to add the first win and the first points in the 2023/24 edition of the Women’s Champions League.
In the duel of the second round of Group A, at Benfica’s campus, Seixal, the match reached the end of the first half with the score 0-0 on the scoreboard.
In the second half, Benfica took the lead in the 52nd minute, through Kika Nazareth, after receiving the ball and converting it from Jessica Silva inside the area, against two opponents. The ball fell to Kika, who appeared on the right of the area, shot a low ball, and placed it near the post to beat goalkeeper Angel Mukasa 1-0.

Benfica, who were already leading, had a huge opportunity to make it 2-0 in the 68th minute through Mari Aledo, but the shot, after a free kick inside the penalty area, went wide of the post.
In a match that saw few clear-cut scoring chances, despite numerous attempts from both sides, Benfica saw Rosengard have the best chance in the 84th minute and in double doses: goalkeeper Lena Pöwels, with two successive saves, helped avoid a 1-1 draw. In front of Kadowaki. And sprung.
Benfica repeated last season’s result at home to the Swedes and now has three points in third place. The team tied with second-placed Eintracht Frankfurt by three points after losing to Barcelona 3-1 this evening. The Spaniard leads the standings with six points, and Rosengaard occupies fourth and last place with no points.
Next Sunday, Benfica will host Sporting Lisbon in the eighth round of the Women’s League, at 2:30 pm.
In the Champions League, Benfica returns to competitions on December 13, by hosting Eintracht in the third round.
