Joe Biden said, in San Francisco (West Coast), during a fundraising campaign for his re-election campaign, “President Xi is another example of how to re-establish American leadership in the world. They have serious problems, my friends.”
Biden did not specify what exactly he was referring to, but the comments come at a time when China’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic appears to have slowed.
In a similar event in June, the US leader went so far as to call Xi a “dictator,” which caused great upset in Beijing.
The meeting between Biden and Xi is scheduled to take place Wednesday in the San Francisco Bay Area, one day before the summit of leaders of 21 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation economies, which ends on Friday.
This will be the second meeting of the leaders of the world’s major economies since Biden arrived at the White House in January 2021. The first meeting, which lasted more than three hours, was held in November last year, on the sidelines of the G20 summit, in Bali, Indonesia.
The meeting will also mark the first conversation in a year between the two leaders, who have not had any official contact, not even a phone call, since their meeting in Bali.
