This measure is part of a set of concessions made by the government to ensure support for independent parties

The Independence Party Esquerra Republica de Catalunya (moderate sovereign left) agrees to cast votes in the Spanish Parliament for the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE, centre-left) to facilitate the installation of Pedro Sánchez as party president. The government has the elements of a trade agreement. In order to gain the support of the European Reform Council, the Socialists committed to forgiving a significant portion, 20%, of the debt owed by Catalonia with the credit instruments of the Spanish state.
This concession has aroused an immediate feeling of relative injustice in the rest of the autonomous communities that make up the country, but especially in those governed by the Popular Party (centre-right left), the main opposition party. The government, which will remain in power until negotiations with Catalan separatists to overturn the ban on Sanchez’s inauguration are resolved, promised to review all positions.
