Heavy rainfall and high temperatures are an ideal combination for the breeding of Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that transmits dengue fever. However, for the insect to reproduce, it needs a place with standing water, no matter how small, such as the lid of a bottle. To eliminate these “nurseries”, the Paranagua Health Department, in partnership with the Environment and Public Works Departments, is implementing on Monday (6) and Tuesday (7) a joint effort to remove debris in nine neighborhoods of the city: Colonia Santa Rita and Sitio Cruzeiro; Imbuguaso; Jardim Figuera; Jardim Iguaçu; Agari Park; Fern garden. Villa do Pofo and Villa Marineau.
In contact with the population
During these two days, endemic pathogens will travel throughout the nine boroughs advising residents on removing breeding sites and how to avoid them. The Environment Secretariat had previously directed them to remove the rubble on Sunday the fifth or morning of the sixth of this month to be collected, with the exception of building materials.
“The presence of endemic disease control agents is frequent throughout the city, throughout the year, and these measures add to prevention, because we live in a climate suitable for the breeding of Aedes aegypti. We stress the importance of residents in this fight, always taking care to avoid potential breeding sites in their homes, such as bottle caps, gutters, vases, tires, pots and other places where water can accumulate.“, Tell JB Cost Minister of Health, Legia Regina de Campos Cordero.
“This measure specifically aims to eliminate the breeding sites of mosquitoes that transmit dengue and other arboviruses. We recommend that residents use the weekend to check everything that could become breeding ground and place them outside for removal during these two days of work.Ligia added.
Continuous work
According to the municipal administration, other neighborhoods will also receive the measure and residents will be informed in advance of the dates. In parallel, the measures routinely implemented by agents to combat endemic diseases will continue to be implemented through home visits, removal of breeding sites, surveys, statistics, lectures and other services that occur throughout the year.
