Excessively high expectations have been created about the negotiations between the government and doctors’ unions, giving the idea that reaching an agreement between the two parties would solve health problems. But that is not the case. Responding to the demands of the medical profession and searching for an understanding that meets their demands is one thing, and responding to the drama that users experience in emergency rooms and hospital health centers, where they spend the night at the door, sleeping, is another thing. On the ground wrapped in a blanket, that may not be enough to warrant a ticket for assistance. This is where the government should focus its energy, finding the right policies that lead to solving the users’ specific problems, and treating them with the dignity and respect they deserve and do not receive, regardless of whether they are, at the same time, or not. Attention to the work situation of doctors and nurses – who, like users, have been forgotten, but whose mission is no less important than that of doctors. Unfortunately for the health of the Portuguese, this is neither what we saw nor what is expected. Negotiations with doctors’ unions may bear fruit or not, I do not know. Users will continue to wait, having no other choice.
