REupen Dias does not forget his formative years at Benfica, especially his time in the reserve team, at a time when he already had a dream of reaching the main team. In Pedro Pinto’s ‘1 to 1’ podcast, which aired on Wednesday, the current Manchester City defender confirmed that he was always confident that he would succeed.
“The coach, with whom I get along well, asked me when I was in the second team: So, Robin, what will it be like next year? Do you have any expectations? Are you thinking of some clubs in case that doesn’t happen? Well and they don’t count on you in the team Main? “This was the first time I had encountered this matter. My conviction was so blind that I never thought of going anywhere. I just thought I would stay where I was and move forward,” Ruben Dias began to reveal and continued.
“At the time I heard that and I was thinking to myself: ‘But who do you think you’re talking to? I’m going to the first team, mate.” That moment stuck in my mind. It was the first time I really spoke. “I looked at myself and realized how convinced I was of my intention to go to the main team. If I had to wait in the second team I would stay there, but sooner or later… it was a wall I wanted to break,” the Portuguese international explained.
It is worth noting that Ruben Dias’s first appearance with the main Benfica team was on September 16, 2017, against Boavista, under the leadership of coach Rui Vitoria. In the summer of 2020, the Portuguese central defender ended up moving to Manchester City.
