Taking the stairs you often avoid can help you reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease by 20% and benefit from the countless benefits that come with it. Taking 50 steps every day is enough. This is the main conclusion of a study published in the journal Atherosclerosis, conducted by Peking University in China in cooperation with the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, and Tulane University in the United States.

“High-intensity stair climbing is an effective way to improve cardiorespiratory fitness and lipid profile, especially among those who cannot meet current physical activity recommendations,” epidemiologist Lu Qi of Tulane University told Science Alert.
The researchers arrived at this value after analyzing information from 458,860 adults included in the UK Biobank (a database containing information on more than half a million British citizens).
