British company Burberry has announced the completion of the acquisition of the product development business of Pattern, a long-standing Italian supplier. This strategic investment will strengthen Burberry’s technical apparel capabilities, while giving it greater control over the quality, cost, delivery and sustainability of its products.
The acquisition builds on Burberry’s strong industrial heritage in the UK, where the company will continue to develop Raincoat These products are exclusive to the brand and follow the successful integration of Burberry’s leather goods division in Florence, Italy, Burberry said in a press release.
Burberry has partnered with Pattern for nearly 20 years to produce luxury apparel, including padded and down jackets, at the Italian company’s product development facility in Turin, Italy.
About 70 employees at Pattern in Turin will join the Burberry teams once the acquisition is completed, which is expected to take place later this year. Pattern will continue to operate the company’s operations not included in the deal.
“This strategic investment is another important step in realizing the full potential of our apparel category painting. It will strengthen our capabilities, build on our strong foundations in the UK, and allow us to better control the quality, delivery and sustainability of our products. This is an exciting development and I am delighted to welcome our future colleagues to this adventure,” said Jonathan Akeroyd, Managing Director of Burberry.
