In his thanks, actor Albano Geronimo spoke of a “whirlwind of emotions”, as there was no shortage of “tears in the corner of his eyes” and a phone call from one of his daughters crying with joy at the recognition of her father’s work. .
Just like in the movies, “Sousa dos Dogs” rewinds the time and tells how it all began. “In 2021, during the pandemic, a film producer was looking for someone to work with dogs. Through WhatsApp [realizador] Thiago Guedes, brother of Rodrigo Guedes de Carvalho, from SIC, invited me to be a double tutor: for Albano and a pack of 12 dogs. “After much consideration, I accepted,” says Ezequiel Souza, recalling his previous appearances in Sergio Trivo’s “Raiva” and Hugo Vieira da Silva’s “Body Rice,” both filmed in Alentejo.
“Sousa the dogs” and the actor went to the estate of Gisela Canamero, in Vidigueira, who had 35 dogs living freely there. “They were abandoned and abused dogs and I rescued them,” he recalls.
“The Remains of the Wind” tells the story of an evil man whose only friends are dogs. “Albano is adapting very well, and it seems that he has been living with animals for many years,” says Ezequiel Souza, who considers him an “actor from another world.”
“He created a very beautiful harmony with the animals, treated them with great humanity, and especially loved Molly the dog, the star of the film,” he reveals.
“Restos do vento” was filmed over two months in Serra da Malcata, with the village of Memão in Benamacor, where the film won four Sofia Awards from the Portuguese Film Academy this year.
