The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, announced the opening of an official investigation to hold current President Joe Biden accountable. The operation is based on trying to prove Biden’s involvement in the suspicious business dealings of his son, Hunter Biden, and in the attribution of tax benefits. Thus, the 46th President of the United States joins the list of presidents who have undergone impeachment, which includes names such as Thomas Jefferson, Harry S. Truman, and all presidents since 1981, except Barack Obama, as reported by the Washington Post.
McCarthy stated that the GOP investigations show a “culture of corruption” and that “allegations of abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption warrant a deeper investigation by the House of Representatives.”
The Republican-led measure is based primarily on six allegations made by the House Speaker: the alleged $20 million deal for the Biden family through shell companies, and bribery accepted by the Biden family according to FBI informant Joe Biden. Engaging in dinners and phone calls with his son’s associates, evaluating the Biden family’s financial dealings as suspicious by US banks, using the position of vice president (during the Obama administration) to benefit Hunter’s business, and finally, the president lying to the American people regarding his ignorance of the family business. However, there is some contradiction in these statements. The same Republicans, who have been investigating Biden for the past nine months, admitted that they were unable to find clear evidence of the president’s interference.
“Parity” with Trump
An impeachment attempt, coupled with the strong possibility of a Hunter Biden trial in an election year, could certainly hurt the president’s re-election campaign and could have a significant impact on the outcome of the election. In this way, Donald Trump, the favorite to win the Republican primaries, has another weakness that can be exploited if the electoral clash of 2020 is repeated, and creates some parity, at the level of legal procedures, between the two candidates.
