Heavy rains in northern and central Greece have left cities inundated with overflowing rivers. Several videos have been circulating on social media showing cars being pushed by the force of water on the roads of Volos. One person died when the wall collapsed.
It’s a scene similar to that caused by another storm with similar characteristics over the weekend in Spain, particularly in the community of Madrid. In Toledo, three people died and three are still missing due to heavy accidents caused by the rain and consequent difficulty in helping people.
But now that Spaniards are trying to clean muddy streets and Greeks are trying to shelter from heavy rain, Western Europe is facing another situation: in the territory between France and the United Kingdom, a heat wave is being recorded. Temperatures will rise to 30°C to 40°C throughout the week. Crowds gather in gardens to cool off.
The images show conflicting scenes in countries close to each other. A heat wave crossing Western Europe is flanked by two atmospheric depressions, independent of each other, but wreaking havoc in Spain and Greece.
