Google Pac-Man, Evangelion, and Hello Kitty are on the hunt for augmented reality

Google announced Tuesday (20) the release of several augmented reality creatures from smartphones and tablets, with a focus on Pac-Man and Hello Kitty. Freshness is accessed directly in the mobile search engine app and brings together many icons of Japanese pop culture, and also introduces characters to countries in the West.

In total, there are 14 new 3D animated objects added to the search giant’s augmented reality tool, which is able to project the character on any smooth surface and even display the content in its original size. From the search engine the user can search for:

• Gomorrah.
• Evangelion (shown EVA-01, led by Shinji);
• Gundam (showing Penelope, Xi, and Odysseus versions);

• Little Twin Stars.

Google itself comments that the culture of animation and video games originated in Japan between the 1950s and 1980s, and reached other countries as well. In order to choose which items will be placed in augmented reality, within this wide range of options, the search giant has listed the most searched characters in almost all countries of the world, over the past five years.

According to the survey, Pac-man appears first in almost any corner of the world. The yellow letter has more than twice the runner-up searches, represented by the friendly Hello Kitty. The search giant is still referring to Peru when it creates a ranking of the countries most hungry for points and ghosts, while the Philippines leads the way when it comes to cats – which is no longer a cat, but Jijinka.

Google has other objects in augmented reality

The arrival of cartoon characters is an addition to an already long list of objects and animals for viewing in augmented reality on smartphones and tablets. In November of last year, search engine users were able to see a platypus, koala, tiger, goat, labrador and even a pug on the device’s screen.
