The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has one of the best screens available in a high-end smartphone today, rivaling only the OPPO Find X6 Pro in terms of brightness and the Sony Xperia 1 V in terms of resolution. With the Galaxy S24 lineup, we expect Samsung to raise the bar with important updates. If the new leak is true, Samsung wants to make the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s screen brighter and wider.
Galaxy S24 Ultra: Get ready for a brighter, brighter screen!
According to leaker Ice Universe, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will come with a 6.78-inch screen with a resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels. It has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a maximum brightness of 2,500 nits. The aspect ratio was incorrectly referred to as 19.5:5, but it was clarified in another tweet.
It’s true that leaker Ice Universe doesn’t have an impeccable record of leaks. That is, we need to view them with some caution. However, if these results are correct, the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s display will be 750 nits brighter (at peak brightness) than the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s display (1750 nits) and match the Find X6 Pro’s peak brightness.
The leak didn’t mention it, but we’ve heard claims that Samsung could use an M13 panel, which refers to a 13th-generation high-performance OLED panel. These panels are thinner and more energy efficient.
The tweet also included an example of what the Galaxy S24 Ultra might look like.
The biggest and most notable change we can see in the mockup is that the Galaxy S24 Ultra can let go of the curves. Instead, we will have a smartphone with a flat front, much like what we see on the current Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus. But Samsung can keep the Ultra’s sharp angles in the S24 Ultra, giving it a unique look.
Meanwhile, the leaked digital chat station also indicates that all Galaxy S24 series smartphones may come with flat screens.
If true, it would be the first time in many years that Samsung’s flagship ditches the curved screen.
This is in line with the design philosophy that is being implemented more and more.
There was a golden age for curved screens as many manufacturers used them. Examples include Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi. At the time, curved screens were an indicator of “premium” and “luxury” design in smartphones. Now everything is moving to flat screens.
