Two kittens secretly traveled from Portugal to England
The animals were found on a transport pallet inside a truck.
The two cats were found in England three days later on a truck from Portugal. According to VetTimesThe animals will have a new home after receiving veterinary treatment in the English town of Northamptonshire.
The kittens, now named Mango and Smudge, were four weeks old when they were found on a shipping tray.
The animals are quarantined and will remain for a few more weeks after the initial treatment.
The cats were still weak, hungry and dehydrated and were considered healthy. They have already started to recover after starting the treatment.
“It’s really important to completely isolate them because they came to the UK without any vaccinations and Portugal has some diseases that we haven’t seen in this country for a long time,” said medical director Lauren Walker.
“The kittens were housed in our oxygen chamber, contact with designated staff and strict cleaning measures completely minimize any risk,” he added.
Walker said the cats are classified as “undocumented animals” and the relevant authorities have been notified.
