Swimming is one of the most traditional sports in the Olympics, having first been competed in Athens in 1896. The United States has been the best nation in 19 of the 29 Olympics, and has dominated the sport since Antwerp 1920. But, oddly enough, there has been no discord in any competition. . All the years, especially because of Paris 1900, whose tests were even on the Seine. Brazil has been on the podium 15 times, taking home one gold, four silver and ten bronze medals. Since Moscow 1980, only in Seoul 1988 and Rio 2016 have we focused on the Olympic pools. Check out all the swimming details in our Olympic guide.

Over the past 100 years, the United States has only lost in 1932 and 1936 to Japan, in 1956 to Australia, and finally in 1980 and 1988 to East Germany. But Australia is very strong and is looking to break the hegemony of the United States. However, the biggest attraction may be Canadian phenomenon Summer McIntosh, who will turn just 17 in Paris 2024. For Brazil, Fernando Scheffer and Bruno Fratus will be looking to get back on the podium, but I’m also looking at Guilherme Costa and Cachurao.

Swimming venue at the Olympic Games in Paris
Arena 92 (Nanterre)
The swimming events will be held at the Paris La Defense Arena in Nanterre. The city is located in the Paris metropolitan area, but is close to the city center and is known as the home of Paris X University. The square is home to the rugby club Nanterre 92. Water polo.
The Organizing Olympic Committee prohibits the use of sponsor names outside the IOC, and therefore the Organizing Committee will temporarily adopt the name Arena 92 during the Games. The number refers to the Nanterre area code, which is a common way to identify cities and regions in France.
The nearest stations are “Nanterre Préfecture” and “La Défense – Grande Arche”, both of which are part of the RER A high-speed train line. The metro connects to Ile-de-France and finally the T2 tram line. Nanterre, by the way, is inhabited by many compatriots of Portuguese descent. So, don’t be surprised to hear the Lusitanian Portuguese are on their way to the competition!
Olympic swimming rankings Paris 2024
The two-pointer ranking format continues, just as it was at Tokyo 2020. The Olympic Qualification Time (OQT) and Olympic Merit Time (OCT) can be achieved in the Olympic window, between March 1, 2023, and June 23, 2024. OCT is OQT plus 0.5%.
All athletes who reach the OQT, which can be considered an A indicator, are seeded, provided that two rankings are determined for each country in the same event. Each country will be able to field two athletes with an OQT or one athlete with an OCT, the famous B-index, in each race, but the maximum team must be of 26 men and 26 women.
Olympic classification of relays
In addition, there will be a classification of the seven migration events operating in a different format. Both relays will have 16 teams, and the 2023 World Cup Final in Fukuoka will decide the top three. In the end, if there is a tie for bronze, both teams qualify. The other thirteen (or 12) places will come from the standings worthy of the times in the qualifiers and finals for the 2023 World Cup, as well as for the 2024 World Cup in Doha. In the event of a tie, there will be an additional swim, but the date and venue will be determined by the respective federations.
By defining the seeded teams, each country will finally be able to compile its own roster of athletes, taking athletes already qualified with the index. Each country will have the right to receive additional athletes only for the relay, the so-called relay only. For each seeded relay, the country will then receive two invitations to “relay athletes”, with a maximum number of 12, even in the event of seven seeded relays. These athletes definitely need to participate in a relay event, whether in the heats or the finals; Therefore, the team will be disqualified if any athletes are disqualified. The International Water Sports Federation is still opening a loophole for any invited teams even without pointers, which may eventually be a reference to the refugee team.
All countries will be represented at the Paris gathering
All countries that will participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics will be able to register a man and a woman, even if they do not reach any of the indexes, through the principle of universality. From there, the IFRC will then calculate how many athletes have made it to the indexes. If you don’t have 852 entrants, OCT athletes are invited, but only in this way.
If 28 or more spaces are available, one athlete will be invited per event, except for athletes from countries that already have two ranked individual athletes or an athlete with an OQT rating. In the event that an athlete is invited to attend two or more events, he will be invited and the following athletes in all events will also be invited, provided that their number does not exceed 852 places. The process will continue until you reach 825 vacancies, i.e. 27 or fewer vacancies are missing. In this case, the federation will finally call the necessary athletes from an arrangement with the next two athletes, with several predictions on the status of ties.
National anthology
In general, the major swimming forces organize specific methods for selecting their representatives. We are gradually updating here as more confederations announce their qualifying operations.

Relay rates only if the player is not competing in the individual event. The fifth name can be called relays. Each person must make a final “A” in electives to seal the vacancy (medical absences will be accepted).
Canada– 2024 Trials, ranked by priority: 1- 2 best for each event in 2024, if they performed an OQT; 2, 3, 4 – relay athletes; 5- 2nd place in the race achieving the OQT index in the Olympic window; 6. If there are still places available, the OCT-indexed swimmer in the events without athletes, who has won the race with a time at most 1% slower than the best time achieved in the Olympic window.

Brazilian possibilities
In recent years, Brazil has finally adopted the individual selection process to select the team, using OQT as a benchmark in competition. In this way, it also refuses to register athletes for OCT even for competitions where no athlete is guaranteed. Although athletes increasingly complained about the individual choice modelThe Brazilian Aquatics Federation (CBDA) has not shown signs that it will change the paradigm.
