“sAny extension of the restrictions is completely unacceptable and downright anti-European. Zelensky said during his daily intervention on social media that Europe has the institutional capacity to act more rationally instead of closing borders to a particular commodity.
Zelensky said he hoped the European side would “fulfill its obligations” when the current restrictions expire on Sept. 15.
Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania announced on Wednesday that they had signed a joint declaration calling on the European Commission to extend the ban on imports of Ukrainian grain into their territory until the end of the year.
In June, the Commission announced that these restrictions could be extended until September 15, despite opposition from Kiev and resistance among member states.
Faced with an influx of Ukrainian agricultural products, after the ban was lifted by the European Union in May 2022, these neighboring countries of Ukraine unilaterally banned imports in mid-April to counter saturation of their silos and lower domestic prices.
