Google surprised us with a new update to Google Photos, which adds new effects to add to the videos you have in your library.
The new effects of Google Images Include “Powder Mix”, “Tear Paper”, “Black and White Film”, “Lomo”, “Light Leak”, “Film Environment”, “Chromatic”, “Fisheye”, “Vintage”, “Layout”, “Retro” Film “and” Poster “.
Each can convert the look of your video in one click and is available whenever you edit a video in the Google Photos app to android or iOS.
How to access the new Google Photos effects
To access the new video effects, open Google Photos, select a video and tap the Edit button at the bottom of the screen. Now, swipe left on the circle of options until you get to the Effects option. This should appear immediately after the Set button.
If you find an effect you like, just click “Save a Copy” to save the edited version of the video along with the original one. If you don’t find the Effects option, it’s because the feature isn’t available yet.
In this case, try to update the app. Please note that new effects may also require a subscription to Google One on non-Pixel phones.

- powder mixture Apply random dust and scratch marks to the video, giving it the look of an old movie. It also adds a slight increase in overall contrast;
- Paper rips Creates the effect of a torn strip of paper in the middle of the video, with the areas on either side of the paper tear converted to black and white;
- Black and white film It applies a similar effect to the first one, but also converts the video to black and white. The scratches appear this time as faint vertical lines on the edges of the frame, to mimic the effect of film being damaged when passed through a motion picture camera or projector;
- lomo adds a “light leak” effect to the edges of the video frame, especially on the left, simulating the results obtained on a film camera when light enters the camera body and affects the film;
- light leakage adds to it moving light bubbles of low contrast, as if light entered the camera during shooting;
- film environment It gives the video a warm dark tone, as well as a vignette effect that darkens the edges of the frame. The result is a video that appears to have been shot with an antique camera and lens;
The fisheye effect is one of them.
- chromatic It gives the appearance of skewed cyan and magenta colors, especially at the edges of the video. This effect works particularly well on black and white videos;
- The fish’s eye Distorts the entire image to resemble shots taken with a circular fisheye lens. Some color effects are also applied to the edges of the image to increase realism;
- classic Provides a warm, low-contrast look with a little added film grain. It’s a lot less extreme than the Movie Ambience option;
- change It divides the video image into a grid of rectangles with rounded corners. Each rectangle shows a small clip of the original video at different zoom levels;
- retro movie Looks like Film Ambience and Vintage and creates a low-resolution look with smudges and light leaks, with colors adjusted to resemble old films;
- attached Gives the appearance of a full poster with minor damage to the paper, including crease marks as if it had been folded twice and opened again.
