DREM also notes that in May 2023, RAM domestic and international airport traffic registered positive year-on-year differences, with international traffic growing (+15.4%) from domestic traffic (+6.6%). Compared to the same period before the pandemic (2019), international traffic grew by 43.9% and domestic traffic by 41.4%.
At Madeira Airport, international traffic (54.9%) prevailed over domestic traffic (45.1% of the total). At Porto Santo Airport, domestic traffic prevails (66.6% of the total), but with less variation compared to the previous April. In this reference month, scheduled flights at Royal Air Maroc airports accounted for 91.3% of all aircraft handled and 93.2% of passengers (91.4% and 92.8% in the same period, respectively), he adds.
It is also expected that in the period under analysis, the occupancy of aircraft handled at Royal Air Maroc airports was around 87.1%, with Madeira airport reaching 88.0% and Porto Santo reaching 74.7%. In the same period last year, the occupancy rate was lower, at 79.6%, 80.4% and 65.8% in the same order.
“In the first five months of 2023, passengers boarded and disembarked at airports in Royal Air Maroc amounted to 1,885,000, half corresponding only to traffic between airports located in the national territory, which includes domestic and domestic connections (47.1% of the total) and another international move (52.9%).
