The Minister of Health announced this Wednesday in Parliament that by the end of this year, the USF Model Family Health Units (USF) will no longer exist, “because everything will be the same as USF Model B today.”
This means that since this USF will become Model B, the wages of professionals will be linked to performance, allowing between 200,000 and 250,000 employees to earn a family doctor, Manuel Pizarro emphasized.
The Minister of Health is heard this Wednesday in the Health Committee of the Assembly of the Republic. Manuel Pizarro’s hearing resulted from the PSD’s request to speak on the closure of birth blocks in the Lisbon region and Tagus Valley.
In the opening remarks, the Minister began by making a positive assessment of the initiatives that the Government has taken and has already implemented to improve the National Health Service (SNS), namely the issue of providing a family doctor for more users.
“Social communication services have reached a level of activity that has not been achieved before,” he said, referring to the fact that more than 11.6 million medical consultations were conducted in the field of primary health care in the first four months of this year, as well as the fact that consultations in hospitals increased by 3.8%, surpassing 4.5 million.
The minister also confirmed an increase in surgeries by 10.4% compared to the same period last year, reaching 279,905 in the first four months of the year, and 14.6% in medical homes, with a total of 62,179.
