Celebrity chef John Mountain has “banned” vegans from his restaurant in Australia after receiving a review that criticized the lack of vegan options on the menu.
In a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page, “FYRE,” Chef John Mountain wrote this Tuesday that he will no longer serve vegetarian customers for “mental health reasons.”
Including the hashtags #vegan, #no, #pleasegoelswhere and #nomorevegans, John Mountain wrote: “Unfortunately all vegans are currently banned from ‘FYRE’ (for mental health reasons).
Chef FYRE’s decision came after a negative review from a customer, who criticized the fact that the restaurant no longer had vegan options and that the only veg dish cost A$32 (about €29.30).
“I think it is very important nowadays for restaurants to welcome everyone, and the fact that they don’t have vegetarian dishes shows flaws as a chef,” highlighted the woman who criticized the restaurant’s menu. In response to the post, “FYRE” thanked the negative review and hoped to never see it again.
The chef added, “How childish. You and all your vegetarian friends can eat somewhere else.”
In an interview given to 7 newsthe chef said his customers should already know what they can expect from him: “I wrote and sold a book called ‘Pig’, which contains pork recipes. My job is to make the food have the best possible flavor and I can ‘always cater to everyone’s nutritional needs’.”
The ban on vegetarians at the ‘FYRE’ restaurant sparked controversy among customers on social media, with some praising the decision and others condemning it.
