British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who will be in Washington next week, wants to establish “closer and more open” ties with US President Joe Biden, Downing Street said on Saturday night.
Chung will meet Joe Biden for the fourth time in four months on Thursday. “No British prime minister in recent years has had such a sustained relationship with the US president,” Downing Street said in a statement.
“America is our closest ally,” Sunak declared. “We are each other’s partner of first choice in all areas, whether ensuring the safety of our fellow citizens or developing our economy,” he explained.
“That is why it is so important for a British Prime Minister to develop close and transparent relations with the US President,” he added.
On Thursday, Rishi Sunak will join US business leaders at the Business Roundtable, an annual gathering of top US business leaders.
“The visit will be an opportunity to strengthen the UK-US trade relationship and continue British and US leadership on global issues such as support for Ukraine,” the statement said.
Participating in various events to “celebrate the strength of the relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States” is on Sunak’s agenda. The British leader will attend a baseball game between the Washington Nationals and the Arizona Diamondbacks, an event celebrating the friendship between the two countries.
