wThe hiquinho, the biker cat who went viral around the world, passed away on Sunday, May 21, at the age of 19. The news was posted by the family via their Instagram account. “Chiquinho cat”.
“So much pain. Chiquinho left today with a stroke. There was nothing he could do. He left quickly and without pain. May Papa Alexandre receives you to a big party in heaven. Two warriors are reunited. Words, just so much pain to miss you [SIC]”, reads the post published on Sunday, also referring to the owner of the animal, who died two years ago, a victim of Covid-19.
Chiquinho became famous in 2016 when he was ‘invaded’ by reporting armed clashes in the slums of Rocinha, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The journalist was living when Alexandre Goulart passed by on a motorcycle, accompanied by his cat, wearing sunglasses.
From there, the biker cat toured the world. It crossed borders and made its way to the world’s press. It was so successful that the family decided to create an Instagram account for the cat, which has reached 36,000 followers.
