The BMW Z4 gave rise to a beautiful van with Ferrari FF air and the GTC4Lusso, its successor. The convertible derivative station wagon was unveiled last week for this year’s Concorso D’Eleganza Villa d’Eeste, but it could become a production car.
With station wagons so endangered, seeing a concept like this warms the heart of any car fan. And BMW has prepared a very interesting model. First, the Concept Touring Coupé, the concept car’s official name, isn’t a traditional station wagon.
A more accurate definition is that it’s a launch brake, which is a sportier version of this bodywork. They are usually coupe-based two-door models, as is the BMW version. In addition, it is common to have a long hood and trunk lid that allow access to the interior of the vehicle.
All of these requirements are present in the car shown by the German automaker, as well as being part of the current Ferrari GTC4Lusso and its predecessor, the FF. Shooting brakes are rare, and only a few of them entered series production after conventional station wagons became popular.
In the case of the BMW Z4, the shooting brake version is similar to another model the automaker made in the past, the Z3 M Coupé. The concept was similar, although in this case the focus was more on a sports utility vehicle than a station wagon. In any case, it is inevitable to look at the new concept and not remember the car that was sold 20 years ago.
In addition to the beautiful exterior design, the concept features a very luxurious interior. The manufacturer has ordered a two-tone finish signed by Poltrona Frau, and there are bags made by Italian company Schedoni. The engine used in the concept wasn’t revealed in many details, with BMW saying only that it’s a typical six for the company.
While it is a really interesting car, and has caused a stir on social media, it is very unlikely that this concept will ever go into production. Who knows, maybe some customizers are not inspired by it and start selling mod kits for the Z4. At least it would be a way to get such a nice car on the planet.
