A fall from a bicycle led to the discovery, by journalist Mariana Ficarra, 41, of lung cancer. After the fall, she was rescued and during the tests, something unexpected happened.
The cancer was at an early stage, however, Mariana was referred to the hospital’s oncology department.
Days later, an examination of the pet confirmed the disease: a 2.4-cm adenocarcinoma in the left lung. Creed was on the other side of the resulting fracture of the journalist’s rib caused by the bike fall.
– At the end of the biopsy, the doctor said: “Mariana, it’s cancer.” At that moment, I said: let’s go! Whatever needs to be done, I will face it. I felt like I was able to get over this and take the message that we need to take care of ourselves and prevent ourselves – Mariana told Metropoles.
The caller is not a smoker, is young and was not in a risk group. A reasonable explanation would be a genetic mutation, however, this can only be confirmed by a genetic analysis test.
Lack of symptoms is common in early-stage cases such as that of the journalist. Cough, bloody sputum, chest pain, hoarseness, shortness of breath, weight loss or loss of appetite are all common in the later stages of the disease.
Because she was found out in time, Mariana was able to remove only the part of the lung that was compromised and is now recovering, and she is very confident that she will get through the next stages of treatment.
