Endemic disease agents working in the Environmental Health Surveillance of the Department of Health and Civil Defense of São Gonçalo State underwent training, Tuesday morning, to work with the new equipment to eradicate the Aedes aegypti mosquito – which transmits dengue, Zika and chikungunya.
Vector coordination introduced the new material and taught the agents how to handle the equipment, which would be used for chemical blocking and viral circulation of arboviruses. The new equipment went into use this Tuesday.
This new equipment is state of the art and will replace older equipment that is already outdated. The effectiveness of the equipment is much better compared to the previous one. The previous machine is very heavy. Environmental control director Edson Vieira said using the new device would make loading and handling easier, as it is much lighter.
gonçalenses can aid the action of agents in controlling vectors that do not leave water build-up in environments. Any drop of water can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Therefore, it is important to clean gutters and drains, cover water tanks, put bottles and containers upside down, fill potted plants with sand, keep building materials and pool covers always tight, store old tires and keep barrels and cans closed.
