Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom Following a theatrical release earlier this year, one of the Netflix originals is set for May 2023.

The characters are based on classic comics and books that have sold nearly 400 million copies and first appeared in 1959.
Gilles Lelouch, Vincent Cassel, Jonathan Cohen, and Marion Cotillard star alongside Gannett.
The film also features a cameo from soccer legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who recently appeared in the Netflix animated film. Football Football Movie.
When it hit theaters in France in February 2023, the film didn’t exactly set the world on fire as it currently holds a 2.4 rating from critics and a 1.9 rating from audiences. On IMDb, the film holds a 4.9 out of 10 with over 2,500 reviews.
Despite the criticism, the film opened strongly in French theaters.
Netflix originally acquired the rights in April 2021 and plans to release the film later. The film’s planned production territories include the United States and the United Kingdom.
It will be available in French with original audio and dubbed in English, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. Various subtitle options including English are also available. The film has a 12th rating in the UK and a TV-PG rating in the US.
Notably, the film will not be released in the following countries: France, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Greece and the Baltics, where other distributors have acquired the rights.
Of course, Netflix is investing in the Asterix (or universe, if you prefer) IP, as the streamer is still on board with a new animated series due in 2024.
Alain Chabet is directing the new series, with Alain Goldman producing.
