The Juice mission toward Jupiter was launched last Friday (14), and it recorded its first “selfies” from space. There are amazing pictures where the Earth appears in the background as you can see above. The images were taken just hours after the probe was launched from the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. The images have a resolution of 1024 x 1024 pixels and have been processed with slight color adjustment.

Below you can see Juice’s track record with its own solar panels. paying off:
- The JUICE 1 (JMC1) surveillance camera is located at the front of the stand. It is placed diagonally upwards, being able to see part of the solar panels and also their antennas.
- JUICE 2 (JMC2) sits on top of the device, taking images from the device’s 52-foot (16-meter) antenna. Radar to explore icy moons (Frost).
- RIME’s main job is to explore the moons Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto.
With this, RIME will assist in the exploration of the subterranean oceans. Researchers believe pockets of water are hidden under the icy surfaces of Jupiter’s natural satellite. Scientists want to understand if this environment could harbor life.
The Juice mission is expected to reach the gas giant in 8 years, in 2031. Upon arrival there, the science camera will be responsible for recording high-resolution images of Jupiter and its icy moons. Other planets should be recorded in this process. There is a plan to take pictures of Venus in 2025.
