With Android, Google controls a lot of what brands like Samsung have on their smartphones. In addition to its services, it affects other areas such as research and a lot of existing software. That may change soon, as Samsung is considering swapping Google search for Bing on its smartphones.
Samsung may leave Google to Microsoft
This is not yet confirmed information, however The New York Times presents it as real. Based on the information gathered within Google itself, it was possible to tell that Samsung's change is being firmly considered and real.
Based on the changes and news that Microsoft has brought to Bing, this option has become interesting and almost logical. And quickly and with minimal impact, Samsung will bring to its Galaxy smartphones all the AI capabilities that Google does not yet offer.
Of course, for Google this change could be a heavy blow, especially when it comes to the income that this partnership currently generates. Since Samsung is the manufacturer that sells the most Android smartphones today, it stands to lose $3 billion annually that the manufacturer pays for using Google search.
Bing Search and AI will be the reason for the change
Since the entire question is based on research and its current AI capabilities, Google has to respond quickly. For this, it is also known that a solution is being prepared, which has the internal name of Magi and that will bring AI resources to the existing search engine.
Magi will continue to advertise in the search results mix. Queries that might lead to a financial transaction, like buying shoes or booking a flight, for example, still show ads on the results pages.
Negotiations between Samsung and Microsoft are not over yet and this opens up some space for Google. News about AI in search and other products is expected to appear at this year's I/O conference, i.e. as early as May.
