The municipality of São José dos Campos started, in the first week of April, the second assessment of the density of larvae in Aedes aegypti in 2023.
The activities continue until the 28th and include all 42 metropolitan areas of the municipality.
Held every three months, this measure is important for monitoring infection levels over time, identifying priority areas for action and guiding actions to control mosquitoes, which transmit diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and Zika virus.
There are 3,162 blocks covering 17,772 properties within the municipality’s 42 registered districts. In each block, the number of properties needed to reach the sampling will be worked out. In 2023, a January survey revealed the Breteau’s larvae index to be 1.3.
Based on the data obtained in the evaluations, the best methods for disease control in the coming period are determined. For example, you can redirect and intensify some measures or change the mosquito control strategies approved by your municipality.

Maggot ratings aside, City Hall maintains several virus vector control measures in all areas of the city. Among them is the process that visits places with higher larval rates to eliminate things that can accumulate water and serve as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Endemic disease control teams are constantly promoting educational work and guiding the population to take the necessary measures to avoid disease risks.

This year, 456 confirmed cases of the disease have already been registered in the municipality, and in the same period in 2022 there were 402 confirmed cases.
