YuAn animal rescue team in Brittany, France, was surprised to find a wild duck that appeared to be living a normal life with a knife stuck in its neck in a pond in Saint-Nolf.
Concerns about the animal, which was named Donald Duck by members of the Pinocchio and Sauvageons Society 56, first arose on March 24, when a walker alerted the institution of the injury.
The discovery led, according to Le Parisien, to the Foundation, with the help of firefighters, to monitor the animal and try to save it. When they first arrive at the scene, they notice that the duckling does not appear to be affected by the wound. Donald swam effortlessly alongside the other ducks and walked normally.
However, the rescuers of Pinocchio et Sauvageons 56 knew that if a knife remained in a duck’s neck, it could become a serious problem. After several failed attempts and seven days after the first attempt, rescuers managed to capture and calm the bird on March 31.
The surgery to remove the blade was successful, and after a brief period of rest and recovery, the duck was released again.
“Her behavior has been observed in the water and everything is going well!!! A happy ending for this duck”, confirmed the mayor of Saint-Nolf, Nadine Le Goff.
