Edwards and Old Friendship with St. Ghost: “He’s a real brother.”

Sporting winger Marcus Edwards stressed the significance of the win against Arsenal in London, which he deemed a “crazy and special moment”, not least because it served to unite the group.

“It brought us all together a lot because sometimes the season was difficult, so winning that way, and progressing to the next stage against a team like Arsenal, did something about the atmosphere you have every day in training,” said the England player. An interview with Sporting TV.

“Everyone said Arsenal are the favourites, but we as a team and Mr Robben believed it because we know how good we are in training every day. We play the game and we know how well we can play and how good we are. When we were watching Arsenal footage we knew where we could affect them during the game. We were confident we could win and we did,” he added.

Edwards realizes that the matches with the Gunners show the “level” that Lyonen’s team possesses and understands that the quarter-finals of the Europa League are equipped with good teams, among which is Sporting’s rival Juventus.

“This year, all teams participating in the European Champions League can be in the knockout stage. The level of competition is high, but we are as good as they are,” he stressed.

Edwards also spoke of his strong friendship with Jeremiah Saint. Jost, a teammate he met in 2018/19, when Tottenham loaned him to Excelsior and played centre-back for Feyenoord.

“He is a real brother that I met and even though he is from Holland we talk about where we come from. We played at the same time in the same league [neerlandesa]. We even lived in the same building. He told me after one game that I was a good player. Every day we have deep conversations about life, football, ambitions and everything we want in life,” he revealed.

Edwards has 10 goals and eight assists in 40 games for Sporting this season.
