Day five of eLiga Portugal is over and the qualification calculations are looking increasingly complicated.
Wednesday was match day for Group B and the teams with more reasons to celebrate are CD Santa Clara and FC Famalicão, the only two teams to have added as many as six points.
In the first duel of the day, Famalicenses beat Gil Vicente FC Vincera in two matches drawn on carbon paper. In both encounters, duo Ravan 1k and Danny waited the last few minutes to see Peter Crouch score a solo goal and thus secure two victories.
The Azores also won both matches, against Boavista, narrowly, but with more goals. The first 2-1 was followed by a new victory, 1-0, which left Santa Clara FC in third place, with 13 points – the same with FC Famalicão, who is fourth.
GC FC Vizela are second in the standings, with only their second win in the competition. Vizelle’s side beat Portimonense, 2-0, in the first meeting, but saw the second match end in a 2-2 draw.
Finally, SC Braga EGN beat FC Arouca by Quest and are now the only undefeated team in the group. Gverreiros do Minho, with Licapu and Diogo Peyroteo, beat Arouquenses 2-0 in the first meeting, but drew the second match, 1-1, and Benfica Teleperformance could overtake him in the table – the Eagles got a break. This trip.
Remember that only the top four seeds in each group go to the playoffs, where the new virtual soccer national champion will be crowned. The full league schedule can be followed here.
eLiga Portugal returns next Wednesday, March 22, to start the sixth round of Group A.
