A task force to combat dengue fever will be held on Friday (10) in several neighborhoods of Betim, in the BH metropolitan area. The goal is to eradicate outbreaks of Aedes aegypti, the vector for dengue fever and other viruses, such as Zika and Chikungunya.
According to information from the city council, from 8 am, customers will travel through the areas with the highest prevalence in the municipality, According to data from the recent rapid survey of Aedes aegypti indices (LIRAa), which indicates that the municipality is on alert for a disease epidemic.
The residences will be visited in the selected blocks in the regions of Alterosas, Centro, Citrolândia, Imbiruçu, Norte, PTB, Teresópolis and Vianópolis. Emphasis will also be placed on other locations that have been highlighted as critical points, such as areas where there is irregular disposal of debris and tires, as well as public spaces.
These sites will receive teams from the CDC, the company’s Director of Environmental Services for construction, works, services, projects, transportation and traffic (Ecos), and regional departments.
During the event, endemic disease control agents, together with urban cleaning teams, will visit priority areas, conduct home visits, mobilize the residents of these locations and collect useless objects that can collect water and serve as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. All material collected from properties surveyed will be collected by Ecos teams.
According to the Director of the Center for the Control of Zoonoses and Endemic Diseases, Patricia de Fatima Araujo, the population has an essential role to play in the fight against dengue, as according to LIRAa, 96% of mosquito infestations occur indoors.
“The zoonotic agent is the facilitator who does the technical monitoring and guides residents on eradicating mosquito infestations, but house cleaning is up to the residents, who must remove or cover containers in which water can accumulate. Everyone has their responsibility and the resident must do their part.” , he says.
