Portugal’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest, scheduled for May in Liverpool, United Kingdom, will be chosen in the 57th edition of the song contest starting Saturday, with 20 songs competing this year.
On Saturday, the first semi-final of the competition is scheduled, in which ten songs will compete. The second semi-final will take place on March 4 and will feature ten more songs in the competition.
From each semi-final, six themes will be selected to represent Portugal at the 67th Eurovision Song Contest, competing in the final on 11 March.
According to the RTP, five themes will be selected through a regular voting system (half of the scores are attributed to a professional jury and the other half to the public vote). But “before the end of each semi-final, televoting will open again for a short period so that the audience can vote and select one more song to play in the final”.
In the first semi-final, which will be broadcast live on RTP1 from the Lisbon studio, competing in order of appearance: “To Much Sauce” (directed and performed by Moya), “Sonhos de Libertate” (composed by Jacinta and performed by Polha), “Modo Vu” (April Ivy), ” Encrusilhada” (Sarkey), “Nasi Maria” (Claudia Pascol), “Viver” (SAL), “I Corazo” (Mimicat), “Contrast Moodo” (You Are Charlie Brown), “Endless World” (Neon Soho) and ” “Cement Shoes” (Quim Albercaria/Esse Bovo) can’t be beat.
In the second semi-final broadcast live on RTP1 from the Lisbon studio, “A festa” (Edmundo Inácio), “O Impossível” (The Happy Mess), “While it’s time” (Teresinha Landeiro), “ Bandeiras ” (Pandua), “Goodnight” (Barbara Tinoco), “The End of the World” (Ince So), “Bovo” (Evandro), “The World Needs Cure” (Tapunksportif), “Fanambula” (Andre Henriques/Laura Li) and “Tormendo” (Voodoo Marmalade).
In both semi-finals and the final, in addition to the songs in the competition, there will be live performances by artists and bands such as HMB, Filipe Sambado, Ana Bacalhau, Salvador Sobral, David Fonseca and Maro.
Last year, Maro’s song “Sautade, Sautade”, performed live by four Portuguese singers, represented Portugal at the 66th Festival da Cano in Turin and won the Da Canção Festival. , Italy.
This year’s winning theme will represent Portugal at the 67th Eurovision Song Contest scheduled for May in Liverpool, UK. The two semi-finals are scheduled to be played on May 9 and 11 and the final on May 13.
Last year, Ukraine won the Eurovision Song Contest with the theme song “Stephania” performed by the band Kalush. After winning the tournament, Ukraine should be the host nation for this edition, as it happened in 2005 and 2017.
However, in June, the organization announced that the country would not host the tournament in 2023 due to Russia’s invasion.
As the winning nation, Ukraine will automatically qualify for the Grand Final in 2023, along with the so-called “Big Five” France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.
Last year, Portugal reached ninth place at Eurovision, having already won two contests.
