Electronic Arts and Motive Studio have announced that the new version of Dead Space is now available for PS5, Xbox Series and PC.
“When Dead Space was released in 2008, it instantly became a survival horror classic with its iconic sci-fi atmosphere and ambient storytelling,” said Philippe Ducharme, Senior Producer of Dead Space. “The most important goal in remaking the game nearly 15 years later is to honor the legacy of the original game while enhancing it with the power of today’s hardware. If this is your first time dressing up as Isaac, we hope the game will make the same lasting impression it did in 2008. If If you’re a returning player, our desire is to make a game that truly brings back your best memories. Enjoy picking up a plasma cutter again.”
Dead Space puts players in the shoes of Isaac Clarke, an ordinary engineer on a routine mission to repair the USG Ishimura, a giant mining rover. But aboard the Ishimura, a living nightmare awaits. The ship’s crew is massacred and Isaac’s girlfriend Nicole goes missing somewhere on the ship. Alone and trapped with only his tools and engineering skills, Isaac faces a fight for survival – not just against terrifying monsters called Necromorphs, but against his own failing mind.
More details below, via EA:
Dead Space has been rebuilt from scratch, making use of the Frostbite graphics engine. While maintaining the vision of the original game, the remake offers enhanced audio and sharp, shocking visuals carefully reimagined to evoke a new level of immersion and quality. Additionally, Dead Space features significant gameplay improvements, including:
Enhanced geometric silhouette: With no weapons or support, Isaac is forced to fend off the Necromorphs by using high-tech mining tools to strategically defeat terrifying creatures, solve puzzles on his exciting journey, and use Ishimura’s faulty systems to his advantage. This experience is further enhanced in the remake, with Isaac getting an updated suit and an updated arsenal with more elaborate tools, and improved effects and functionality. Gunner Wright, the original voice of Isaac in Dead Space 2 (2011) and Dead Space 3 (2013), will reprise his role as the voice and now face of the character (originally a silent hero), so players can hear more from the beloved Engineer through new narrative enrichment.
Ishimura fully threaded: From the opening screen to the end credits, players will tackle the creepy narrow corridors and dark hallways of USG Ishimura without a single loading screen or cut-out camera to break the immersion. This massive mining ship has been restored for a remake with new rooms, routes and obstacles, allowing for seamless exploration with new UI map controls and an improved finder.
Density manager: Dead Space offers a well-crafted and equally terrifying world where players can get lost and truly feel the weight of every mysterious step Isaac takes. A new intensity director dynamically adjusts what comes in Isaac’s path as he explores new and old areas of USG Ishimura. From the Necromorph to environmental effects like light, smoke, particles and sound, the experience in the room will never be the same – and neither will players’ experience, if they choose to retrace their steps and revisit past locations to find new situations waiting for them. Isaac’s heart rate, breathing, and efforts also adapt based on his stress level to provide players with direct feedback on his mental, emotional, and physical condition.
Partition system: Necromancer, a beast unlike anything seen before, has been rebuilt around the new spawn system, which introduces and allows players to interact with layers of flesh, tendons, and bones in new ways during combat. And while strategy is key, players will also experience greater opportunities to decide how they use their array of unique weapons and abilities to battle these terrifying foes.
