Netflix has canceled some popular series over the years, which have always caused a lot of talk among subscribers of the video streaming service. More recently, the cancellation of 1899 has left questions about the metrics the company uses to determine which products have been canceled.
Although the communities have debated over the years why many productions are not going to continue, Ted Sarandos ensures that Netflix has never canceled successful series and that they are always on the lookout for creating content of varying scales for a diverse audience.
In a conversation with Bloomberg, the co-CEO and Chief Content Officer of Netflix was asked about the strong criticism online communities have had when popular series are canceled and whether this affects the relationship with the creator community.
In his response, Sarandos said, “We never cancel a successful series. Many of these series were well-intentioned but appealed to a very small audience on a very big budget.”
“The key is to be able to get a small audience on a small budget and a large audience on a big budget. If you do it right, you can do it forever.”
