For the sixth year in a row, US News & World Report has chosen the Mediterranean diet as one of the world’s best diets for health. This eating pattern includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seafood, tomatoes, and olive oil.
According to Food & Wine, to come to this conclusion, the editors of US News and World Report scoured medical journals and government reports to create what they call “detailed profiles” of potential options.
She then asked a panel of recognized US experts (including physicians, nutritionists, and nutritional epidemiologists) to complete a 40-question survey about each diet, which included items such as: “All food groups are included in the diet.” Modifying the diet to fit other cultural, religious, and personal preferences? Then I asked 33 other experts in nutrition, food psychology and chronic disease management to review their profiles before publishing.
“According to years of research and evidence, eating primarily plant-based foods such as fruits and vegetables, including whole grains, beans, nuts, seafood, lean poultry and the unsaturated fats found in extra virgin olive oil, is very beneficial for overall health-being,” the report explains. US News and World Report confirmed his decision to name the Mediterranean diet number one again.
