London, England) – Despite being a year short of expectations, Emma Raducanu remains England’s biggest female sports star. According to a study conducted by Runner’s Need, she is the most searched British athlete on Google, the number one media mention among female tennis players in the country, and third overall across all sports.
Between April and October 2022, the average monthly search volume for the 2021 US Open champion was 1.83 million. In terms of media coverage, soccer player Harry Kane was the most mentioned, with around 178,000 mentions, followed by Ben Stokes (cricket), 78,500, and Raducanu, 59,700, and the rate of positive outcomes reached 66%. Meanwhile, British men’s tennis No. 1, Cameron Norrie, received 40,500 mentions and a 77% positive rate.
In August alone, Raduganu achieved 2.74 million searches on Google, the highest number of any athlete in the study. The decision coincided with a period of controversy at the US Open, where she was trying to defend her 2021 title and was knocked out in the first round this season.
On social media, Emma is second only to Kane. The Tottenham striker has 13.6 million followers on Instagram, while the tennis player has 2.5 million fans.
