Gilberto Gil was the victim of hate attacks during the Brazil World Cup match.
In Qatar to support the Canadian national team, the singer became the target of insults during the match with Serbia once he was recognized by some Brazilian fans, all of whom are Jair Bolsonaro supporters.
The initial complaint was filed by Andrej Jannonis, a federal deputy who in the last election was part of the transitional government of then-president-elect Lula da Silva.
“Let’s go, Bolsonaro. Let’s go, Le Rouette,” some began in a sarcastic tone, as the singer walked toward the stadium stands. Lee Rowan. Thank you, son of a bitch…”, they added.
The episode quickly filled social networks and several Brazilian personalities immediately declared their support for the singer.
However, Gilberto Gil has already had the opportunity to comment on the case. On Instagram, the artist thanked the many statements of support he received, describing the attacks he targeted as “stupid”. “My thanks, my thanks and Flora, finally for this solidarity in the face of this aggression, this stupid thing,” he said.
