SAO PAULO, SP (UOL / FOLHAPRESS) – Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer a Manchester United player. The announcement came this Tuesday afternoon (22nd) in an official note posted on the club’s website and on Twitter.
According to United, the departure agreement was reached by mutual decision, with immediate effect. The Red Devils thanked the player for his two periods, during which he scored 145 goals in the 346 matches he played, and wished the striker’s family success.
The note ends with the reinforcement that everyone at the club will remain focused on the team’s progress under Dutch coach Erik ten Hag, and work together to achieve success on the pitch.
Note from United
Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Manchester United by mutual agreement, effective immediately.
The club is grateful to him for his tremendous contribution during his two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in the 346 games he played, and we wish him and his family well for the future.
Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to achieve success on the pitch.
Disagreement with the technician
Before the relationship with United ended, Ronaldo publicly criticized the club and its staff in an interview with UK journalist Piers Morgan.
Ronaldo accuses the club’s management of not believing the reason for his absence from the preparatory season for the team: health problems in his daughter Bella, who was three months old at the time. He also says that the coach, Erik ten Hag, does not respect him. CR7 was the Red Devils’ top scorer last season, but has been on the bench since the arrival of Ten Hag.
In response to the note, the player confirmed the termination of the contract.
Note from Ronaldo
After discussions with Manchester United, we have mutually decided to terminate our contract early. I love Manchester United and their fans, and that will never change.
However, I feel the time is right to look for a new challenge. I wish the team all the best for the rest of the season and beyond.
The Portuguese forward sits with the Portugal squad in preparation for their first-team appearance on Thursday (24) against Ghana at 1pm. He said in an interview on Monday that he “says what he wants,” referring to the controversy. On the same day, he became the first person to reach 500 million followers on Instagram.
