Mozambique police intercepted a tanker truck carrying 99 foreigners inside the tank that was supposed to be used to transport fuel.
The authorities suspect that this is another case of illegal immigration, in which entry into the country takes place at the cost of his life.
Police spokesman Mario Arnasa Lusa said the truck, coming from Malawi, was heading to the port of Beira, where it was due to be loaded with fuel.
On Saturday, police stopped him at Bunga Center in the central province of Manica for a routine search.
After the vehicle was started, residents alerted the authorities, and reported seeing someone opening the cover of a tank to peek outside.
Police officers chased the truck, which was paralyzed shortly thereafter, and the driver ran away and took the documents for each.
Among the foreign nationals are nine women, all of whom are in Mozambican police custody.
In March 2020, a total of 64 Ethiopian migrants were found suffocating in a truck container with 14 survivors, repatriated in the meantime, after illegally crossing the Malawi border into Mozambique.
